Skylar's Story

Before  After
              (Before)                                             (After)
"Before drug court, my life was in a downward spiral headed for destruction. I didn't know who to turn to for help, nor did I think anyone would be able to understand and help me with what I needed to face my addiction. All I wanted was for someone to wave a magic wand and cure me of all of my demons. After my arrest, I was left with one of two options. Option one: Go to jail, get out, and continue to do what I have always done, but now struggle with a felony on my record, or option two: Take a shot in the dark and get the help I needed. The decision seems like a no-brainer, but I was terrified to let the drugs go. I had let drugs define me for most of my life; they were my crutch. I made the decision to give drug court a chance and quickly realized that I was going to need to put in as much effort into being sober as I was going to get out of it. Throughout the program, drug court gave me the support and the tools I needed to be clean. They team taught me to believe in myself and to realize being sober isn't just about not using drugs, its about realizing drugs don't define me and I'm capable and deserving of living a happy, healthy life in recovery, despite the poor decisions I made while using. Drug court was the first big thing I had ever accomplished. The program was a blessing to me, and I will always hold it dear to my heart. I got my life and myself back. They taught me to never give up before the miracle happens and to take my life one day at a time. Because of drug court I am able to feel like a part of the community that I once felt so isolated from. Drug court was not just a phase in my life, but it was the doorway to a whole new way of life; a sober, fulfilling life."

Amanda's Story

"My name is Amanda J. I graduated from the drug court in June 2014. Before entering the drug court, I was a heroin addict for eight years. I had hit rock bottom by going to jail, and losing the family that really believed in me, along with my young daughter. I had tried rehab, I had tried doing it on my own, and I had tried AA/NA, although none of that seemed to work long term! After I had gotten incarcerated, I had the option of entering the drug court program. And I took it! Now, I can say that I have been clean and sober for over three years! I am so grateful for the hard work that I put into the program. It has made me who I am today! I am happy, I am a loving mother, and I am fully capable of taking care of my family and myself! There is no greater feeling in the world than being able to overcome something that has weighed you down and held you back for so many years! I have the Drug Court Team Members to thank for a lot of that! I could not see myself going back down that road. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!!"
