Our Story
Our story continues as we move
into a new century. We are filled with the
promises of new techniques, new education,
new advances and “expanded scopes
of practice.” We recognize our place
in LaPorte County history and are excited
about the new paths emergency medicine will
take in the future.
With the ever present “new
scope of practice” our emergency medical
technicians and paramedics have not lost
the basic importance of our mission. We
use reliable and medically effective methods
of bringing the best possible pre-hospital
care to our community. We are committed
to employ progressive methods in providing
that service without losing the compassionate
and individualized attention we provide
to our patients.
We are very fortunate to live
in a healthcare community that supports
our efforts. The hospital systems of LaPorte
County encourage and enhance our efforts
to be the best. We are also able to take
advantage of a wider network of education
and training due to our location. We have
attended many different seminars at world
renowned teaching hospitals in Indianapolis,
Gary, Fort Wayne, South Bend and Chicago.
Many of our emergency medical technicians
and paramedics have included their enthusiasm
for emergency medicine with symposiums throughout
the country while they were on vacation.
They shared any new tips of the trade and
insights they gained. We have also had employees
incorporate their travels outside of the
country with an interesting EMS exchange.
The differences in culture may be great
but the desire to bring good pre-hospital
care to each citizen is common in Ireland,
India, Canada, Mexico and Germany.
We were fortunate last year
to have had an exchange with our Germany
peers. For two weeks fourteen emts, paramedics,
doctors, firefighters and police officers
visited LaPorte County EMS. They stayed
in our homes and went to work with us. We
developed friendships through global networking.
There are plans to send some of our employees
to visit Germany and next summer another
group will be here to visit.
