Lincoln Township is located
on the eastern border of LaPorte County
between Wills Township to the north and
Johnson Township to the south. Lincoln was
the first township in Indiana to be named
for Abraham Lincoln. This rural area is home
to many who like the quieter lifestyle but
have easy access to the nearby city of LaPorte
via State Road 4. Mill Creek is the only
official town located within the township's
boundaries although there is a distinct
community of it's own surrounding one of
the township's most popular attractions,
Fish Lake.
This area is great for fishing,
nature watching, hunting, or just getting
away. The township features the Little Kankakee
and the Kankakee Rivers, Upper and Lower
Fish Lake as well as smaller tributaries
and ponds. Because of the Kankakee Rivers,
many marshlands exist which is the preferred
habitat for many species of birds and animals.
The Little Kankakee is a designated release
area for stocking by the Indiana Fish and
Wildlife Department.
The Trustee and Assessor
of Lincoln Township is
John G. McDanial. John has been reelected
three times and has served proudly for over
12 years. Under John's direction, the township
recently was awarded $100,000.00 grant from
the Build Indiana Fund for a new community
building as well as $39,285.00 for a new
tanker truck.
